The Big Timeline
Althought there were many experiments in the use of electricity and music from as early as the Clavecin Electrique in France in the 18th century, the first truly electronic instrument was the Telharmonium at the beginning of the 20th century. In short, electronic music is a twentieth century invention.
How did electronic music develop through the twentieth century? There are, in fact, five stories, and we're telling them here step by step in the form of a guided tour through time.
