The photo at the left shows Pierre Henry in 1952 at the Salle de L'Ancien Conservatoire in Paris, manipulating the spatial distribution of sounds. He is using the pupitre d'espace (space control), a device utilizing induction coils, built by Jacques Poullin in 1951 at Pierre Schaeffer's suggestion.
