 The Synclavier

  Synclavier

The Synclavier, developed by Sydney Alonso and Cameron Jones with musical advice from Jon Appleton, was first designed and built in 1977. Appleton recalls, "My input was that we should have an instrument for live performance and that the functions of an analog studio and of certain music languages should be hardwired in the form of buttons and knobs on a control panel ..."

In 1979, the Synclavier was remodelled to become the Synclavier II which quickly became a major commercial success, widely used in the film industry and in popular music composition and production.
